Editorial Services

What is it like to work with me?

I have always believed a good editor is an experienced translator and guide. They are someone that brings forward all the best qualities and highlights of your manuscript, helping you to write a book that feels fully aligned with your vision so that you can write from an endless well of inspiration. Rather than just red lining a manuscript, strong editors teach you to self-edit, so you learn and become a better writer along the journey.  At the same time, they guide you to develop a book that stands out in the market and has lasting selling power—a book that people recommend to their friends, keep on their bookshelf year-after-year, and that has a positive impact on the lives of others.

Working with me, I will support you every step of the way, but I will also challenge you to make your book the best it can be. Together we will create a manuscript that is well-positioned, well-written, and intentionally shaped so that you will walk away with a book you are deeply proud to share with the world.

Lions, Tigers, and books, Oh My!

Writing a book can seem intimidating at first, but don't worry, I've got you covered. Here is a roadmap through the editorial process of writing a book.

Concept Development

My absolute favorite part of working with authors is being an idea partner! This offering is best when you have a book idea but need help developing the concept. I will work with you one-on-one to develop standout positioning in the market, create a strong book outline and overview, and a clear audience for your book. Anytime you work with me on titling and positioning, this is done in collaboration with my long-term "work wife" and multi-New York Times bestselling Marketer Jenn Jensen, cofounder of Copilot Publishing. Concept Development typically takes 4-8 weeks to complete depending how far you are in the process.

Book Coaching

Book Coaching is for anyone looking for support in writing a balanced and engaging manuscript. Once you have a solid book concept developed, I will work with you chapter by chapter to build a powerful draft manuscript, from teaching you the necessary elements to write a compelling introduction, shaping a marketable table of contents, and positioning each chapter in your manuscript to align with a clear audience. Some writers like coaching for accountability, others to become stronger writers, while many are writing a book for the first time and want help navigating the twists and turns of book publishing. This offering is usually a package of 6-15 coaching calls over a period of 3, 6, or 12 months.

Developmental Review

This service is best when you have a full or near finished draft manuscript and would like big picture editorial feedback on structure and how to improve and position your book. This includes a developmental letter and inline comments, plus a number of 60-minute editorial calls to go over positioning and make editorial decisions together. A Developmental Review can typically be done in 2-4 weeks.

Subediting/Line Editing

This type of editing is the deep line work and is the last step in the editing process before going to copyediting. A subedit is usually two rounds of line edits to address structure, and sentence-by-sentence stylistic writing, tone, pacing, and much more. This service can usually take about 6-10 weeks to complete.

Ghostwriting

This service includes ghostwriting manuscripts and proposals. For authors who know what they want to say but have busy schedules, partial ghostwriting is a good option and offers a mix of help editing and writing passages in your voice.
